History Has Been Made...

During this crazy election there have been bitter words, disrespectful people and so much drama, but last night all that ended at 10:58 pm. I was in my friends room watching the turn out. I remember when the screen said 207-Obama: 95-McCain, then suddenly it changed to 207-Obama: 148 or 149-McCain. At this point I had started to realize, maybe McCain does have a chance and people doubted how loyal his voters were. But no, that was not the case. About 3 minutes later MSNBC announced "Projected Winner: Barack Obama".

Next minute MSNBC announced "President of the USA: Barack Obama". The 44th president is Barack Obama!

It was a momentous occasion. My friends and I were completely speechless, all we could do was go outside and scream. I could barely talk on my phone or text, it was truly an experience.

After the announcement, everyone decided to go to this street named Franklin Street. Franklin Street is the place where all the parties are, where people can go crazy, a lot of bars and food and always people to have fun with. Last night, well this morning, Franklin Street was blocked off because of all the people who came there to celebrate President Barack Obama. O-B-A-M-A is all you heard along with screaming and prayers.

The most emotional part to me is the fact that I helped him win. I voted and my vote counted. No one can take my participation in history away from me and no one can no longer say, "I Can't".

Better years are yet to come.

I felt the same way. Had Obama won the Presidency but not won North Carolina I still would have been ecstatic but realizing that he won in my state which had been so continuously red was mind blowing. I finally felt like my vote made a difference.

I am just speechless to be living in history.

I feel so lucky that I'm here in North Carolina, US at that historical moment. I was moved by his acceptance speech. It's so hard to be a loyal Republican this year especially in UNC . XP

I feel kind of like the black sheep of the African-American family. On the one hand, I am happy to see that the racial prejudices and bigotry that has plagued our country for so many years have decreased by such a margin that a man with African blood in his veins is honored with the seat of the highest office in our country, and possibly the world. On the other hand, I do not agree with many of Obama's policies, such as his ideas regarding foreign diplomacy and gun control. I could not bring myself to vote for someone that I disagree with morally as well. And yet so many of my friends have disregarded that in their enthusiasm for having a black president that they view me as almost disloyal to my race. This election has been a struggle for me in many ways.

It's great that you feel that way, coming from a country where the term "democracy" is taken very lightly (dead people show up as having voted) it's always disheartening to see results that you know have been manipulated.
The fact that you vote in a system you trust that much is very fortunate, don't forget it! you're lucky you know your vote counts!
